What's Happening?

Stop Press... DYT’s Television Debut!

John Partridge with DYTIt seems that our reputation just grows and grows. Now, even the fictional borough of Walford knows of our work! Eastenders actor John Partridge came to meet DYT and film with us for the National Lottery Good Causes Programme to be screened on Saturday 15th October at 9.50p.m. After a brief BSL lesson John performed the opening of Branches with the cast and chatted with members about their own and his experiences on stage. I think it would be fair to say…it was a very exciting day for DYT. Thanks John. You’ve got a whole lot of new fans. And thanks to DYT. You did us proud. Again!

Therapeutic Theatre

Workshops and rehearsals are well under way for our Therapeutic Theatre performance of ‘The Courage to Dream’ at this year’s Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival. You can find more details of the production and the Symposium event that’s also happening under theatre. Good luck all! You’ll be great. And while we’re talking about Therapeutic Theatre... GREAT news. Our recent funding application to Long-Term Conditions Alliance Scotland (LTCAS) has been successful. This mean that, not only can this amazing, unique project continue, but it can develop even further, give those people that take part even more opportunity to get involved with Solar Bear. Thanks LTCAS.

Smokies

smokiesAs part of his residency, Ramesh recently directed Smokies, a work in development, which was performed in front of two sell out audiences at this year’s Arches Live. Audience feedback was amazing. Just a few things people said:

Loved it!!! Mega thumbs up... beautiful and hilarious and totally gross.

Wonderful. Very interesting, refreshing to see this different style.

Congratulations to the great team who worked on it. And a big thank-you from all at Solar Bear.

DYT

dytAfter a really busy (and very successful) summer at the NFYT, DYT is back to Wednesday night workshops. So far we’ve been working with Jane Simpson (dance/movement), Ian Bustard (music), and our own resident team of talented drama artists. Following the success of last terms First Light project, in partnership with GFT, the Arches and GMAC, we’ve now got the go ahead to turn the script into a short film. It all starts in November. Should be great fun. And if that’s not enough...... as part of the Inspiration Festival DYT will be joining forces with Tigerstyle and the Arches to create something new…and VERY different. Looks like it’s shaping up to be a busy term!

Deaf Theatre Club

Deaf Theatre Club is going from strength to strength. With more and more people wanting to be a part of Scotland’s vibrant theatre scene, a staggering fifty people have signed up to see two NTS performances in the coming weeks. Whilst DTC just covers Glasgow just now, we have plans to go national in the coming months. Watch this space! If you’re interested in getting involved please get in touch with Natalie…she’d love to hear from you.
