CURRENT
PROJECTS

Solar Bear UNITED
is currently in rehearsal for BROKEN,
a new physical theatre piece which will be performed at Tramway in Glasgow from Wednesday 6 - Saturday 9 June at 7.30
pm with a Matinee performance
on Friday 8 June at 1pm (£3/£6).
BROKEN marks the
premiere of a large-scale, cutting-edge new performance which extends
the bounds of physical theatre. Performed by professional adult actors
and a cast of young performers, BROKEN
heralds major advancements in theatre-making though the development of
unique on-stage aesthetics which combine British Sign Language, speech,
sound and movement.
Informed by a series of workshops in our Count Me In programme, BROKEN has been developed by Solar
Bear UNITED and adapted by Ronnie
Simon. The piece centres on the lives of a group of young people
who regularly visit a local park. Secrets kept buried for years are
unearthed, with tragic consequences. Based around four main characters,
we watch as they deal with emotionally brutal topics handled with a
gentle dignity and respect.
“BROKEN examines how we communicate...and how we
don't,” says Director, Gerry Ramage.

Work is also beginning on
a new, multi-media performance project which will go into development
in October 2007.
Funds are now in place to
establish Scotland’s first Deaf Youth Theatre, with workshops due to
commence in autumn 2007.
More details on the above two projects to follow.
