Solar Bear UNITED Solar Bear UNITED (the young people’s wing of Solar Bear Limited) is the only company of its type in Scotland. It is a professional theatre company that works specifically for and with young people, developing workshops and plays that relate specifically to young people’s experiences and interests. Solar Bear UNITED is a continuation of the work of Gerry Ramage (formerly Artistic Director of Raindog Young Blood). Gerry’s work is renowned both nationally and internationally for its pioneering vision, its passionate delivery and its appeal to young participants. The Company continues to make the participation in a quality theatre experience much more accessible to young people, particularly to those who would not otherwise have access to drama. The main rehearsal period is undertaken throughout school/college holidays, whilst regular monthly workshops take place in Glasgow. Schools and parents/carers are consulted with regard to current activities, time schedules and commitments. The Company meets all travel costs and can provide accommodation to young people traveling from further a-field. There is no audition process involved, and students are selected as a result of their participation in the workshop and their application to join. To date, 17 young people have gone on to study drama, or gone directly into the profession as a result of their work with the Company’s artistic team. Others have gone on to study or work in the arts industry.  Please Note We have strict monitoring systems in place to ensure the safety and well being of all young people working with us. We are a registered body with Disclosure Scotland and all adults working with Solar Bear UNITED go through the proper disclosure procedure, as required. Our child protection policies are strictly enforced and all company personnel undertake regular training to ensure that all areas of good practice are understood and adhered to.
